Mangnganda' Dance in Kalambe, Tikala ; photos taken in 1938 by Claire Holt.
In the mangnganda' dance a group of men wearing gigantic headdresses of silver coins (rijksdaalders), real buffalo horns and sacred cloths made of black velvet dance to the sound of a bell and the screaming voice of the leader, there is no singing. The headdresses are so heavy that the dance lasts only a few minutes. It used to be performed during house inauguration and harvest ceremonies.
